GENE & RUBY LOCKHART UHURU\ALL DAY SUNDAY LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

In 1969 a Black owned business named Uhuru opened its doors in Midtown Plaza.  This entity evolved into an institution known as All Day Sunday - a cultural pillar that made an indelible impact upon the greater Rochester community.  For more than three decades the owners of All Day Sunday, philanthropists Gene and Ruby Lockhart, trained, led, and inspired dedicated employees to aspire to greatness through the pursuit of education, activism, and community service.

Gene and Ruby generously awarded tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to employees who maintained a good grade average, volunteered, and committed themselves to attending and graduating college.

To honor this incredible legacy, the alumni (former employees) of All Day Sunday have established the Gene & Ruby Lockhart Uhuru/All Day Sunday Legacy Scholarship, to promote academic excellence, and positive progression of Rochester area youth.

Students who demonstrate dedication to their education, achieve excellent grades, and also show a commitment to making their community a better place are the ideal candidates for this opportunity.  Every year a monetary prize will be awarded to a student of color, graduating from a Rochester area high school with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and accepted to a four year accredited college.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
