Shayvon Crosby is a 2009 graduate of Greece Olympia High School in Greece, New
York. She has been recognized as a
Black Scholar by the Urban League of Rochester and a recipient of the Sisters
For A Better Community scholarship.
Ms. Crosby is a Freshman at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. She
will be pursuing a degree in Nursing.
Her goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner in Pediatrics.
Ms. Crosby has been active in the community by volunteering at Episcopal Senior
Life Communities, serving as the President of the Youth Choir at Goodwill
Missionary Baptist Church, an active member of the Young Women Auxiliary, and a
mentor to teenage girls.
Her community spirit will ultimately guide her to achieve her desire to
establish a Scholarship Foundation of her own in the Rochester area to help
students who do not meet the financial aid guidelines.
Ms. Crosby’s perspective on life is summed up in her own words as; “I am a
believer that life is what you make it. Life has its ups and downs, but I have
learned not to worry about things I can’t control. I will make the best of every
situation because I want to live, not just exist.”
STAAR Leaders of Rochester believes Ms. Crosby embodies the essence of what
community involvement and seeking the welfare of your neighbor is all about. We
are pleased to have her as the 2009 Eddie E. Israel – Thatt Groupp scholarship
recipient.
